--but tousit's stillthemiddle of nowhere.

It's quiet forasecond.AROAR risesup from the jungle, deafening.The trees shake as something very, very largeplows ahead through them,right at us.Everyheadgatheredinthislittle clearing snaps,turninginthe directionof the soundasitbursts through the trees.

It's abulldozer.It drops its scoop andpushes forwardinto theback endof the crate,shovingit across the jungle floor towards animpressive fencedstructure that towers over anenclosedsectionof thick jungle.There's aguard tower at one endof thisholdingopen that makesit look likeSanQuentin.

Thebulldozer pushes forwardinto theback end, the crate THUDS TO THEFLOOR.A door slides openinthepen,makingaspace asbigas the endof the crate.

Nobody moves for a second,A grim-facedguy who seems tobe in charge (RobertMuldoon,althoughwe don't knowit yet).

MULDOON

Alrightnow,pushersmovein.Loading teammove it.

Themovement as agitatedwhatever isinside the crate,andthe whole thingshivers as GROWLS andSNAPScome frominside. Everyonemovesback.

MULDOON (cont'd)

Alright,steady.Getbackinthere now,push.Getback inthere,Don't let her know you're afraid!

Themen goback to the crate andbegin topushit into the slot. The crate THUDSUP AGAINST THEOPENING.Agreenlight on the side of thepenlightsup,showingcontact hasbeenmade.

FROM INSIDE THECRATE, we get glimpses of what's onthe other side of those wooden slates -- jungle foliage,MENwithrifles,searching searchlights. The view isherky-jerky as the crate put intoposition.

MULDOON

Well lockedS Loading team, step away.Joffrey, raise the gate.

A WORKER climbs to the top of the crate.The searchlights are trainedonthe door.

TheRIFFLEMENthrow thebolts ontheir rifles andCRACK their stunguns,sendingarcs of current CRACKING through the air.

The WORKER getsready to grab the gate whenallat once--

A ROAR from theinside the crate, andthepanelflies out of his hands andSMACKSintohim,knockinghimclear off the crate.

Now everythinghappens at once.The WORKER THUDS to the jungle floor, the crate jerks away from themouthof theholdingpenflash,an alarmBUZZER sounds--

-- andaclaw SLASHES out frominside the crate.It sinks into the ankle of the WORKER.dragginghim toward the dark mouthbetweenthe crate and thepen.The WORKER SCREAMS andpaws the dirt,leavinglong clawmarks as heisrapidly dragged toward the crate.

MuldoonSHOUTS orders:

Tasers get inthere,Goddamnit!

They FIRE their guns- the woodof the crate SPLINTERS.

ROSTAGNO andGENNAROmove into the dark,drippingcave,where at leastadozenother WORKERS are gatheredina tight circle, staringat somethingintently.

Rostagno fightshis way to the center of the group.One of the WORKERS handshimsomethingandRostagno examines it carefully.

It's achuck of amber, ashiny yellow rock about the size of a half dollar. GENNARO If two experts signoff ontheisland,theinsurance guys'llback off.I already got IanMalcolm,but they think he's too trendy.They want AlanGrant.

ROSTAGNO

Grant?You'll never gethimout of Montana.

GENNARO

Why not?

ROSTAGNO

Becausehe's likeme.He's adigger.

Rostagno turns andholds the amber up to the sunlight streaming through themouthof the cave.

With thelightpouringthroughit,the amber is translucent,and we cansee somethinginside this strange stone --

Pullup toreveal agroup of diggers workingon alarge skeleton.All we see are the tops of their hats.Thepaleontologist workingon the clawlaysit inhishand.

(thoughtfully)

Four complete skeletons.... suchasmallarea... the same timehorizon--

ELLIE

They diedtogether?

GRANT

The taphonomy sure looks that way.

ELLIE

If they diedtogether, they livedtogether. Suggests somekind of socialorder.

DR ALANGRANT, mid-thirties,aragged-lookingguy withintense concentration youwouldn't want to get inthe way of,carefully examines a claw.

DR ELLIESATTLER, workingwithhim,leansinclose andstudies it too.She paints the exposedbone withrubber cement.Ellieinher late twenties,athletic-looking.There's animpatience about Ellie,as if nothinginlifehappens quite fast enoughfor her.

They huntedas ateam.The dismembered tenontosaurus bone over there - that's lunch.But what killedour raptors inalakebed,inabunchlike this?We better comeup withsomethingthatmakes sense.

ELLIE

A drought.Thelake was shrinking--

That's good.That'sright!They diedaroundadried-up puddle!Without fightingeach other.This is looking good.

Grant SIGNS andsitsup,stretchingout hisback.

GRANT

Ihate computers.

He shoves the claw absent-mindedlyinto his pocket andhe and Ellie walk toward the source of the voice.As they walk,we get our firstlook at thebadlands.Exposedoutcroppings of crumbling limestone stretch for milesinevery direction,not a tree or abushin sight.

Inthe digitself, the groundis checkered withexcavations everywhere.There's abase camp withfive or six teepees,aflapping mess tent,a few cards,aflatbedtruck withwrapped fossilsloadedon it,andamobilehome.There are adozen VOLUNTEERS of allages at work in variousplaces around the dig.The Volunteers are from all walks of life,dinosaur buffs.Three or four of themhave CHILDREN withthem,andthekidsrunaround,likeinagiant sandbox.

Grant ,Ellie anda Volunteer walk down thehill.Grant spots a KIDkickingdirt onto one of the digs.Henotices and frowns.

GRANT

What's thatkiddoing?

What are youdoing there!?Excuseme!Canyou just back off?Thisis very fragile!Are youout of your mind? Get off that andgo find your parents!

Why do they have tobringtheir kids?!

ELLIE

You couldhire your help.But there's four summers of work here,withthemoney for one.AndyouSayit's a learningexperience,sort of a vacation,andyouget volunteers withkids.

He andEllie arrive to where several VOLUNTEERS are clustered around a computer terminal that's set up ona table inasmall tent, its flapslashedopen.

A LITTLEGIRL movesalittle too close to themachine.

ELLIE

Want to watchthe computer?

Ellie quietlymoves her out of Grant's way, to aplace she can see.

VOLUNTEER

Thumperready?

MAN

Ready.

VOLUNTEER

Fire.

The VOLUNTEER throws aswitchonamachine that looks abit like afloor buffer.The whole thinghopsupinto the air asit drives a soft leadpellet into the earthwitha tremendous force.Thereis a dull THUD, the earthseems to vibrate,andalleyes turn to the computer screen--

ELLIE

How longdoes thisusually take?

VOLUNTEER

It shouldbe immediatereturn.You shoot theradar into the ground, thebonebouncesback....

The screen suddenly comes alive, yellow contour lines tracing across it inthree waves,detailingadinosaur skeleton.

VOLUNTEER

Thisnewprogram's incredible!A fewmore years of development andyoudon't have to diganymore!

Grant looks athim,andhis expressionispositively wounded.

GRANT

Well,where's the funinthat?

VOLUNTEER

It looks alittle distorted,but Idon't think that's the computer.

ELLIE
(shakesher head)

Postmortemcontraction of theposterior neck ligaments.

(to Grant)

Velociraptor?

GRANT

Yes.Goodshape, too.Five,six feet high.I'm guessingnine feet long.Look at the --

Hepoints topart of the skeleton,but whenhis finger touches the screen the computer BEEPS at himandtheimage changes.Hepulls hishandback,asif it shockedhim.

VOLUNTEER

What's youdo?

ELLIE

He touchedit.Dr. Grant isnot machine compatible.

GRANT

They'vegot it in for me.

The Volunteer LAUGHS and touches adifferent part of the screen, whichbrings the originalimageback.Grant continues,but doesn't get as close.

GRANT

Look at thehalf-moonshapedboneinthe wrist.No wonder these guys learned to fly.

The grouplaughs.Grant is surprised.

GRANT (cont'd)

Now, seriously.Show of thehands.Howmany of you havereadmybook?

Everyone stopslaughingandlooks away.Ellieraisesher hand supportively.So does the Volunteer, Grant sighs.

GRANT (cont'd)

Great.Wellmaybe dinosaurs havemore incommonwith present-day birds thanreptiles.Look at thepublic bone--it's turnedbackwards, just like abird.The vertebrae--fullof hollows andair sacs, justlike a bird.Even the wordraptor means"birdof prey”.

Thekidsteps forward andlooks at the computer skeleton critically.

KID

That doesn't look very scary.More like asix-foot turkey.

Everyone sort of draws intheir breathandsteps aside, revealing theKID, standingalone.Grant turns to theKid,lowershis sunglasses,andstares at himlikehe just came from another planet.

Grant strolls over to theKID,putshis arms aroundhis shouldersina friendly way.

GRANT

Try toimagine yourself inthe Jurassic Period.

Ellierollsher eyes.

ELLIE
(under her breath)

Here wego.

GRANT (cont'd)

You'd get your first look at the six-foot turkey as you moveinto aclearing.But raptor, heknew youwere there along time ago.Hemoves like abird;lightly, bobbinghis head, And youkeep still,because you think maybehis visualacuity'sbasedonmovement,like a T- rex, andhe'lllose youif youdon't move.But no.Not VELOCIRAPTOR.You stare at him,andhe just stares back.That's when the attack comes --not from the front,no,from the side,from the other tworaptors you didn't evenknow were there.

Grant walks around theKid.

GRANT (cont'd)

Velociraptor's apack hunter, yousee,heuses coordinated attack patterns,andhe's out in force today.Andhe slashes at youwith this --

He takes the claw fromhispocket andholdsit at the front of theraptor's three-toed foot.

GRANT (cont'd)

--a six-inchretractable claw,like arazor, on the middle toe.They don't bother tobite the jugular, like alion,they just slashhere,here --

He points to theKid's chest andthigh.

GRANT (cont'd)

--or maybe across thebelly, spillingyour intestines. Point is,you're alive whenthey start to eat you. Whole thing took about four seconds.

TheKidis onthe vergeif tears.

GRANT (cont'd)

So,youknow, try to showalittlerespect.

Andwith that he walksback across the camp,returning tohis skeleton.Elliehurries to catchup withhim.

ELLIE

Youknow, if youreally wantedtoscare thekidyou could've just pulledagunonhim.

GRANT

Yeah, Iknow, youknow...kids.You want tohave one of those?

ELLIE

Well,not one of those,wellyeah,apossibly one at somepoint couldbe agood thing.What's so wrong with kids?

GRANT

Oh,Ellie,look.They're noisy, they're messy, they're sticky, they're expensive.

ELLIE

GRANT

They smell.

ELLIE

ELLIE

ELLIE

It frustrates me somuchthat Ilove you,that Ineedto strangle youright now!

Ellieplayfully takes Grant's hat off andgiveshima tight hug. They kiss.

A strange windseems tobe whippingup.Grant andEllielook around,confused.The windis gettingstronger, blowingdirt andsand everywhere, fillingineverything they've dugout,blowing the protective canvasses off.Now there's amore familiar ROAR,and they look up andseeit --

(to the volunteers)

Get some canvasses andcover anything that's exposed!

Grant's already onit, trying to desperately toprotect the skeletonhe's excavating.Helooksup at thehelicopter andSHOUTS, shakinghis fist.

EXT BASECAMP DAY

Down at thebase camp, thehelicopter haslanded.ThePILOT is already out,waitingas GRANT comes down from themountaintoplike Moses steaming.Grant gestures wildly at him to turn the chopper off.

Thepilot points timidly toamobilehome across the camp. Grant runs to the trailer.

EXT TRAILER DAY

The door to the trailer SLAPS open,andGRANT stormsin.

GRANT

What thehelldo youthink you're doinginhere?

The trailer serves as the dig's office.There are severallong wooden tables set up,every inchcovered withbone specimens that are neatlylaidout,tagged,andlabeled.

Farther alongare ceramic dishes andcrocks,soakingother bones inacidandvinegar.

There's olddusty furniture at one endof the trailer, anda refrigerator.A manroots aroundintherefrigerator, hisback tous. GRUMBLING about the contents whichare mostly beer.

His hand falls across abottle of expensive champagnein the back.

MAN

Ahhah!

Hepullsit out - the corkPOPS.

TheMan turns around.JOHNHAMMOND,seventy-ish,is sprightly ashell,withbright,shiningeyes that say"Followme!"

Grant stares incredulously at theMan,holdinghis champagne bottle without aninvitation.

GRANT

Hey, we were saving that!

HAMMOND

For today, Iguaranteeit.

GRANT

Andwho inGod's name do youthink youare....?

HAMMOND

JohnHammond.And Iamdelightedto finallymeet you inpersonDr Grant.

Grant is struck silent.He shakes hishand,staringdumbly.

GRANT

Mr. --Hammond?

Hammond looks around the trailer approvingly, at the enormous amount of work thebonesrepresent.

HAMMOND

Icanseemy fifty thousandayear asbeenwellspent.

The door SLAPSopenagainandELLIE comesin, just aspissedoff as Grant was.

ELLIE

Okay, who's the jerk?

GRANT

Uh, this is our paleobotanist,Dr Ellie.....

ELLIE

Sattler.

Grant

Dr Sattler.Ellie, this isMr. HAMMOND.

(incase she didn't catchit)

JohnHammond.

ELLIE

DidIsay jerk?

HAMMOND

I'm sorry for the dramatic entrance,but I'minahurry. Willyouhave aweebit of adrink now andthen?

Hammond begins to walk into thekitchen,makinghimself at home. Ellie followshimtries tohelp.Grant settlesbehindthe table.

HAMMOND (cont'd)

Come along then,don't let it get warm!

(expansively)

Come onin,both of you.Sit down.

AsHammond moves, they notice he walks witha slight limp and uses acane-- for balance or style,it's hard to say witch.

ELLIE

Ihave samples allover the kitchen.

(she takes some stones out of one of the glasses)

HAMMOND

Come along.Iknowmy way aroundakitchen.Come along.

Ellie goes around towards Grant.She grabs abottle of water. They look at eachother, really aback by this guy'sbravado, andsite down.Hammond dries the glasses.

HAMMOND (cont'd)

Wellnow, I'llget right to thepoint.Ilike you. Bothof you.Icantellinstantly withpeople;it's agift.

(new subject)

Iown anisland.Off the coast of CostaRica.Ileased it from the government andspent thelast five years settingup akind of biologicalpreserve down there.Really spectacular.Sparedno expense.Itmakes the one IhadinKenyalook like apettingzoo.No doubt that sooner or later our attractions willsend(drive the)kids right out of their minds.

GRANT

Andwhat are those?

ELLIE

Smallversions of adults,honey.

He givesher adirtylook.

HAMMOND

There are two other passengers was well--DONALD GENNARO, the lawyer from the amber mine,now dressedinsafariclothes,everything straight fromBananaRepublic.The other Dr. IANMALCOLM, fortyish, dressedallinblack,withasnakeskinboots andsunglasses.Malcolm, who findsit hard to takehis eyes off Ellie,leans over andSHOUTS over the engine whine.

MALCOLM

So you two digupdinosaurs?

GRANT

Malcolmlaughs,findingthis very amusing,whichconfuses Grant. Hammond turns around annoyed.

HAMMOND

You'llhave to get use toDr. Malcolm!He suffers from adeplorable excess of personality, especially for a mathematician!

Hammond SNORTS,not evenbotheringto cover his contempt for Malcolm.

MALCOLM

Lex isrummagingaroundintheback cargo area,lookingfor something,anything.She finds aflashlight.

The front car lightsup fromwithinasLex switches on the flashlight.

The dinosaur raisesitshead.It turns slowly from the second car to the first car, drawnby thelight.Makingadecision,it strides over to the first vehicle.FAST.

TimandLex canonly stare out of the windows as the T-rex reaches their car andstarts to circle it.

Therex bends down andlooksin through the front windshield, thenthe side window.Timis eye to eye with the thingfor asecond, then the dinosaur raisesitsheadup,above the car.

SMASH! The thing's headits theplastic sunroof,knocking the whole frameright out of theroof of the car anddowninto the vehicle. Thebubble falls down onto TimandLex, trapping them,and the animal lunges down, through thehole,SNAPPING at them.

ThePlexiglasholds,thoughandprotects TimandLex evenasit pins themto the seats.The T-rex continues topushdown,andthe glass GROANS,crack lines racing across it.

Tim,whose feet were caught abovehim,pushesback,only aninch of glass betweenhimand the dinosaur's teeth.

the T-rex starts tonudge theExplorer toward the barrier.Over thebarrier, there is agentle terracedareaat one side where therex emerged from,but the car isn't next to that,it'snext to a sharp precipice,representing afifty or sixty foot drop.

The car, upside downnow, ispushednear the edge.

Therex towers over the car.Like adog,itsputs one foot on the chassis and tears a the undercarriage withits jaws.

Bitingat anythingit canget aholdof,it rips therear axle free, tosses it aside,andbites into a tire.

The tireEXPLODES, startlingthe animal.

72 INSIDE THECAR,

TimandLex are trappedinside therapidly flatteningcar.As the frame continues tobuckle,they crawl toward the openrear window, the car collapsingbehind them.Mudandrain water pout into what little space thereisleft.

Timis ahead,nearingtheback window, when thereisaCRUNCH andaseat comes down,pinninghim.

73 ON THEROAD,

the dinosaur backs up,dragging theExplorer, swingingit left andright.It seemsready to flingit over the edge.

Grant gets out of his car.He's holdingthe flare inonehand, whichhepulls the top off of.Bright flames shoot out the endof it.

The T-rex turns andlooks at him

Grant waves the flare slowly infront of himfromside to side.

The T-rex follows hismovingarm,eyeslockedonthe flare.Grant looks over to the wall,andtosses the flare over the edge of the barrier.Therex lunges after it --

Unclear withGrant's plan,Malcolmleaps out of the car and tries to scareup the T-rex's attentionwithhis ownnewly lit flare. Hebegins to wave it at the animal.Grant seeshim--

Malcolminches back slowly, then takes off,running for hislife down theroad.Heruns to the cement block outhouse Gennaro went into earlier.

Malcolmruns as fast as he can,approaching the outside just steps aheadof the T-rex

But not far enoughahead.Without even slowing down, therex leans forward and flicksMalcolminto the air withits snout.

It's just anudge a for therex,but it sendsMalcolmsailing right throughawoodenportionof the wall,andinto thebuilding.

Gennaro, who cowers inacorner, SCREAMS as tehheadof the T- rex EXPLODES through the front of thebuilding,sendingchunks of cement flyinginalldirections inside.Theroof collapses;Gennaro tries toprotect himself from the falling junk.

Grant gets onhis feet andwatches as the T-rex noses aroundin therubble.

Therex walks to theback of the car.It bends down.

WHAP! The car spins asit ispushedfrombehindby therex. Grant andLex arepushedinfront of it,helpless.They scramble aroundon their knees, trying tokeep aheadof the car, which therex isnowpushingevencloser to the edge of thebarrier.

Grant andLex crawl quickly,but the car ismoving faster, catchingup on them.

And that's exactly what it is,astampede of at least forty dinosaurs,Gallimimusby name.Lex isready to get out of there,but Grant and Timhesitate,staring.

The dinosaurskick up a flock of birds,whichstartles them,and they callchange directionat once,the same way.

Look at the wheeling--theuniformdirectionchange! Like aflock of birds evadingapredator!

Sure enough, they hear aROAR, the very familiar roar -- --of Tyrannosaurus rex.

GRANT

Oh,shit.

Grant and thekids whirlat the sound,but can't placeit,as it seems to come fromallaround them.They look back towards the stampede.Theherd spontaneously changes direction again,andnow they're headedstraight at them.

The three of them take off,across themeadow, toward the relative cover of the jungle.It's areal footrace,but theherdis far faster, andGrant knows they're not goingtomakeit.

They jump over ahugeroot network.There's aspaceunder it to hide,andGrant stops thekids,shoves themunderneath, then follows them.They cover their heads as theherd THUNDERSover theroots.

Chunks of everything fly everywhere as theherdplows overhead, their clawed feet striking the roots dangerously close to Grant and the kids.

Finally, they pass.Grant peersup,over the toproot.Helooks toward the trees,whichtheherdisnowrunningalongside.

A ROAR comes fromsomewhere withinthe trees.

Grant scans the trees,looking for any signof the T-rex --

--and thenit bursts out,aheadof theherd, cutting themoff, throwing theminto disarray, scatteringthemeverywhere.

They allstare as therex kicksit into overdrive,runs downone of the Gallimimus,andsinks its teethintoits neck.

Themetalis twisted,as if gnawed, the holeis large enough for ananimalto slip through.

The shutdownmust have turnedoff all the fences. Goddamnit!EvenNedryknew better thantomess withthe raptor fence.

-- araptor, right there,behind the controlpanel!It SLASHES,takingalungingsweep at Ellie,but gets stuck,its feet and legs tangledinthemaze of pipes onthe floor.

This is our first goodlook at one of these things,andif it weren't so terrifying,we couldadmit that it trulyis athingof beauty.It's thebiggest of theraptors,intensely muscled, coordinatedashell,asmoothly designedpredator.

EllieSHOUTS andfallsback into thepipes onthe other side of the aisle.

Theraptor untanglesitself from thepipes andgives chase, just asEllieSLAMS themeshdoor closed.Theraptor BANGSagainst themesh door, Ellie falls to the ground.

Sheholds onby kickingthe door shut as theraptor continues to pushhimself through the door.Ellieis able toget the door closed. She stands,but then fallsback onto one of the walls.

GRANT walks quickly down thenarrow path towards Hammond's compound,eyes darting from side to side,not exactly sure where he's going.From far off,hehears someone SHOUTING tohim.

He turns.He seesELLIE,standingoutside thebunker.She's wavingtohim,SHOUTINGsomethingtoo faint for himtohear.

He furrows hisbrow andwalks towards her.SheSHOUTSlouder. He walks faster.He's closer now, andhe can finallymake out where she's shouting.

ELLIE

Run!

Grant takes off running towards her, not evenlookingback.He racesup,andsherunsintohis arms.

OUTSIDE THEDOOR TO THEKITCHEN,

theraptor stares downat the door handle,cockingitshead curiously.It SNARLS andbumps the door handle withitshead,but that doesn't do anything.

Itreaches out,toward thehandle,withone clawedhand.

IN THEKITCHEN,

TimandLex stare inshock as the door handle starts to turn.

The door opens.The first raptor standsin the doorway, draws itself up toits fullheight,andlooks around thekitchen.

Now, asecondraptor joinsitinthe doorway.They moveinto theroom,brushingagainst eachother.The first raptor SNAPSas the second,as if to say "keep your distance."

Now theraptors split,takingtwodifferent aisles.TimandLex crawlaway, Timawfully weak now, down athirdaisle,around the other side of the counter from theraptors,movinginthe opposite direction.

As TimandLexpass theraptors,one of theraptor's tails SMACK into somepots andpans,knocking themoff the counter.They fall on thekids,whomanage tokeep quiet.

Thekidskeepmoving as one of theraptors dips down,looking throughanopencabinet toinspect theracket.

TimandLex reach the endof the aisle androundacorner -- but Timmy's fallingbehindnow, andhe accidentallybrushes against somehangingkitchenutensils.

Bothraptors turn.One jumps onto the counter, knockingmore kitchenstuff to the floor.A ladle CLATTERS to astop,and the strange metallic sounds confuse theraptors foramoment.

But then theymove,in Tim's direction,SNIFFING,headingright for him.

Theraptor onthe floor is just about to turn the corner to where Timsits,exposed andexhausted,but both theraptors suddenly stop,hearingaCLICKINGsoundfrom the other endof the aisle.

It'sLex, TAPPING aspoononthe floor to distract them.The raptor on the counter jumps downandstarts cautiously towards Lex's noise,leaving Tim.

Lex sees asteelcabinetbehindher, its slidingdoor slidup andopen.She crawls inside,silently.

Timsees theraptors make the turntowards Lex,SMASHINGmore stuff aroundwiththeir tails.He turns andsees awalk-in freezer in the far wall,withapin-lockinghandle.

AsLex tries topull the overheaddoor to the cabinet shut,one of theraptors rounds acorner andseesher reflectiononashiny cabinet front.Lex tries frantically tolower the cabinet door, but it's stuck.

Timtakes a few deepbreathes,summons whatlittle strengthhe hasleft --

--andmakes abreak for the walk-in freezer.He's limping, dragginghimself,really movinglikeawoundedprey now, and--

-- the other raptor spotshim.Bothraptors gointo apre- attack crouch--

--and they pounce,one towards eachof thekids.

Lex tugs onthe cover, to the avail-- Tim's raptor charges after him, just openfloor spacebetween them--

--andLex's raptor THUDSinto ashiny surfacebearinghr reflection.It chasedthe wrongimage.It sags to the floor, semiconscious.

At the other endof the aisle,therealLex SCREAMSas the other raptor bears downon Tim.Timreaches the freezer, rips the door open, andfallsinside.The floor is coldandslick andhis feet goright out fromunder him.He sprawls across the floor, rolls out of the way

--and theraptor slips and falls into the freezer too,right past him.

Timdrags himself tohisfeet andout of the freezer.

Theraptor makes onelast lunge,right on Tim's heels,itsmouth wide open--

--but Lex SLAMS the door shut just as Timis clear.The raptor'sheadis caught for asecond,but it SNARLS,retreats, and Lex's gets the door shut all the way.

Theraptor ROARS andSCREAMSinside.Lex jams thepin through thehandle,lockingitin.

Now the other raptor staggers tois feet.Groggy,it SMASHES intostuff allover thekitchen.Lex throws her arms around Timagain for support andthey take off.

Grant's riflelies on the floor, smoking,several spent shells alongsideit.The front window of the controlroomhas threehuge impact shatter patternsinthe glass,where the gunshotshit.

TIMgoesinto anopenpanelthrough the ceiling,andinto the crawlspace.LEX climbs theladder, followedby ELLIE andGRANT.

Grant looks over to the front window, scaredashell, just as-

--it SHATTERS inashower of glass andaraptor EXPLODESinto the controlroom.It lands onits feet onawork stationconsole, images fromwallprojectors fallingacross itshead.

Grant vaultshimself upinto the ceiling,andknocks theladder withhis feet.

Theraptor tiltsitsheadcuriously,lookingup at the swaying ceiling.

135 IN THECRAWL SPACE,

Grant,Ellie,andthekids dashacross the ceilingpanels, moving fast,but carefully, so as not tobreak through.

SMASH! Theraptor'sheadbursts throughapanelbehind them, leapingup at them,SNARLINGandSNAPPING.

It drops down again,and they keepmoving forward.But now it ERUPTS throughapanelright infront of them.They SCREAM,its teeth CLICK justinchesinfromof Ellie--

--but theraptor can't holditself up there, andit falls back to the floor of the controlroom.

Grant looks around frantically andspots anair duct afew yards away.

GRANT

Followme!

They move for it,but theraptor'sheadCRASHES through the ceilingagain,this timeright underneathLex.

She SCREAMS andisliftedup,on top of itshead,andpinned to the ceilingabove.

Grant SMASHEShit boot into the side of theraptor's head.The raptor SLAMS at him,latchingontohisboot for asecondbefore the raptor's ownweight pullsitback down.

Lex goes downwith theraptor, spinninginto theholeinthe ceiling,tumblingdown.Grant grabs her by the collar at thelast second,butLex dangles there,above theraptor.

The animalflips over ontoits feet andcrouches topounce just as Grant summonshis strength and jerksLex back into the ceiling.

Theraptor springs,but toolate.Grant andLex scramble over to the air duct and joinEllie and Timinsideit.

136 INTHE AIRDUCT,

Grant,Ellie,andthekids crawl through the air duct as fast at they can,the thinmetalBOOMING andcreasingaround them.They reach ametalgate that shows daylight beneath.Grant reaches out andpulls itup.

Through the gate,they cansee thelobby of the visitor's center below.They're directly above the skeletons of the dinosaurs, the T- rex andthe sauropodit's attacking.Theunfinishedskeletons are surroundedby scaffolding.

INT ROTUNDA DAY

Grant andthe others climb down out of the air duct andonto a platformof the scaffoldingthat stands alongside the skeletons.They continue down to the secondplatform, then the third.They suddenly see--

A RAPTOR,standingto the sideby the second floor railing.

It'smuch too far to jump to thelobby floor, so Grant climbs gingerly onto thenearest skeleton,the toweringbrachiosaur.

They climb down as fast as they can.Grant helps Timdown,Lex andEllie follow.Ellie goes to the tail.Lexmoves to the front. Grant lands on themainbody in themiddle with Tim.And the raptor watches them.

Upinthe ceiling,the skeleton's anchor bolts GROANinthe plaster, starting topull free.But for now, they hold.

Theraptor flies out andlands on theback of themiddle section of the skeleton.SNAP!It CRACKS apart with the weight,sendingthe sections spinninginall different directions.

Grant and Tim twirlonthemiddle section.Timbegins to slide down.Grant tries toholdon tohim--but Timloseshis grip and falls to the groundright underneath the swinging,largemiddle section of the dinosaur skeleton.

Meanwhile,Lex spins onthe front section.She slips--and tries tokeep from fallingas shehangsby her legs.

The anchor boltsinthe ceilingRIP free,ZINGINGpast themlike bullets.The entirebrachiosaur skeletoncollapseslike ahouse of cards sendingEllie to the ground.She covers herself withher arms, tryingtoprotect her headfrom the shower of fallingbones.

Lex falls,landingonthe groundwithbones fallingontop of her.She SCREAMS.

Grant,aloneinthemiddle section,looksup andsees the cable about to SNAP--he falls!Thelarge sectionof the skeletoncomes careening down,headingstraight for Tim,wholays where he fellon the ground.It comes SMASHINGdown...with just enoughspace for himto besafe.

Theraptor tumbles to the floor inacascade of splintering bone.

It lands onits back a few yards away andstaggers foramoment, the windknockedout of it.

Grant landsinfront of Tim.He stands,andgoes to Tim.Lex sits up andsees theraptor regainits feet.She SCREAMS.

Ellie stands.Shenotices the shadows of the secondraptor, standingbehindthe visqueen.She stops deadinher tracks.Shebacks up towards Grant and Tim.

Theraptor comes out fromunder theplastic andlooks around. Grant gets Timout fromunder the skeleton.Lex joins them.They back away from theraptor, approaching from theleft side.Theyback up towards thelargerock inthemiddle of theroomholdingthe other skeleton.

Theraptor crouchintheir pre-attack stance--

The group is caught in the middle of the two approaching raptors.

Lexlooksback andSCREAMS.Grant andthe others continue to back up.They look up andsee --

- - TYRANNOSAURUSREX!It's massiveheaddescends down from above.A set of six-foot jaws clamp down on theraptor.Eighteen-inch teethsink intoits side,and thehelpless animalHOWLSinagony as it's liftedup,up,up off the floor of thelobby.

Grant and the others look upin stunnedamazement.They step back behind therock for safety andlook to the right.They see another raptor approaching.

The other raptor goesupin the air now, twenty feet off of the lobby floor, held fast in themouth of theRex.It stands in the entrance to thelobby in front of themassiveholeit rippedthrough the Visqueenwall.It shakesits enormousheadonce,BREAKING theneck of the velociraptor, thendrops it,dead,to the floor at its feet.

Grant,Ellie,andthekids skirt thebattleroyal onthelobby floor anddashof the door of the Visitor's Center.

The secondraptor turns from the humans andlunges at theRex's side,leapingtwelve feet into the air andrending theRex's fleshas it comes down,slashingit open withits six-inchclaw.

Therex BELLOWSinpain,andturns on theraptor, eyes raging, andstrikes, just once,quickly, as fast as theheadof aserpent.It catches theraptor by thick back end,buts one of its enormous feet down onit,and tears.

Itrips thelast velociraptor inhalf.

Therex whirls around-asit turns,itsheavy tail counterbalances,SNAPPING the other way, sweepingacross the lobby and SMASHINGright through the T-rex skeleton.

The skeletoncollapses inanexplosion of bones, falling to pieces around thelivingrex.

Therex standsmajesticallyin themiddle of thelobby, both skeletons swept away, SNAPPINGlikematchsticks as they settle around the animal.

Therex drawsitself up toits fullheight --

--andROARS.

The soundis deafening,andthe vibrations rattle the entire Visitor's Center.The signwhichdangledover thelobby by its one remainingwire finally falls,CLATTERING to the floor at theRex's feet,face up.

“WHEN DINOSAURSRULED THEEARTH",it says.

Oneby one, they climb aboard, their faces white from their ordeal.

ELLIE comes onfirst,holdingLEX.ThenHAMMOND, carrying TIM. AndGRANT, helpingMALCOLM.

No one speaks.Hammond takes another look at his dream, Grant comes over andtakeshimback to thehelicopter.

Thehelicopter takes off immediately.As they riseinto the air, they stare out the windows,lookingdownon thepark asit spreads out below.

140 DOWN IN THEPARK,

the helicopter soars over a vast plain.The Tyrannosaur, which is still feedingontheremains of the dinosaursit randownand killed,looksup.

It throws its headback andROARS, wavingits little forelimbs at the strange thinginfrustration.As thehelicopter moves off, the T-rex just stares,silently, withhuge,yellowing eyes.It'samoment of utter bewilderment for therex, andwe almost feel--

-- sad for her.

Hammond looks downat thepark,his eyes full.Helooks over at thekids.

They're in theback of thehelicopter, withGrant.As they look out the window, Grant almost absentlyhashis arms aroundbothkids.

Now Ellielooks at him.Bothhe andthekids seemsonatural, so obviously comfortable andtrustingwitheachother.She smiles.

The four of themsit that way,intheback of thehelicopter, huddled together.Survivors.

Grant looks out the window.

Thehelicopter sweepslow over ahuge flock of seabirds that's feedingonaschoolof fish.As the chopper ROARSnear, itkicksup the flock.Hundreds of birds sailoff inalldirections,powerfuland graceful.

Grant looks at the bids andbreaks into a wide grin.

Thebirds reform as flock againand fly straight into the sun.
